La performance présentée is a public reading prepared as part of the performance program at CIRCA art actuel. It consists of a reading (by Steven Girard) of email messages written (by Manoushka Larouche) concerning the development of the performance and thus explaining to the public the nature of the performance at the very moment they experience it. The messages explain Larouche's refusal to sign the contract. The contract between artists Steven Girard and Manoushka Larouche and the CIRCA art actuel institution is then hung on the wall. On the one hand, this work addresses the ontological status of performance, reaching the threshold between performance and non-performance. On the other, it deals with the conditions of acquisition of the status of professional artist through the filiation of the artist to the institution.
