Photo-performance
Inkjet print on matte paper, 7.5 x 10 in., edition of 12
Untitled is an exploration of the place of both the audience and photographic documentation in the realization of a performance (in front of an audience). Documentation is treated in such a way that it becomes the pretext for the performative act. The photo-performance was presented at GHAM & DAFE gallery, Montreal (QC), in 2017.
The number of spectators is first counted, then, with the lights off, the camera is pointed at the artist in the center of the room. When the shot is taken, the flash reveals the artist at the same time as it reveals the number of people in the room. The artist is then made visible by the synchronization of data, suggesting that she appears only as an image in this eventful context.
